(Osbob-the-omniscient) asked for a land of a fallen fairies update on tumblr... and since I won't have tumblr soon I wanted to transfer it over here:
There's been... quite a few changes (At least on my end, I think on the macrolevel things are fairllyyy similar)
But!
So overall I've been heavily focusing on the Anuli backstory portion. This is what I've been rewriting all year, but I think it's for good reason! It's finally getting to a place that's richer and more nuanced and has some plot elements.

Anuli now has access to talking to the pixies from the very beginning. Because fae's alone and tethered beside Kamari's tree for long stretches of time, fae ends up telling stories to faerself about everything and everything, trying to keep this villainous, tether-caused feeling from taking over faer. (Anuli's overstimulated from the tether and the temperature, under stimulated from the lack of things to do, but fae doesn't know that.)
And there's this flower patch that fae likes lying beneath to calm faerself down... because Anuli's roots slightly curl around the sunflower's fae hears bits and pieces of their whispers and chatter to each other, and it's a very large part of keeping faerself okay when Kamari's away (that rhymed wow).
When they wilt in the fall, Anuli freaks. Fae comes to the conclusion that they forgot how to be yellow and tries telling them a story that should remind them. (I'm letting Anuli be a little silly instead of some washed up college literature professor /silly)
And ends up contacting the pixies, who've been translating the sunflowers' abstract feelings into words for Anuli.
A bit of background! Pre-pixie crisis, dryads were the fairies who had access to how the outside world looks. Pixies, being these abstract, semi-hive mind, mental fungal fairies with no set identity, never really see the outside world, so they get all their information from dryads.
Considering climate change, habitat deterioration, all that jazz, pixies wanted as much information from the dryads as possible so they could formulate possible solutions for how to deal with changing conditions.
(As far as they are concerned, this is this world-disease. Humans are only these annoying pests that came along with it, and no fairy really pieces the 'humans are the cause of it all' together. They don't have history textbooks sadly.)

A fun little thing pixies do, being fungi (it's an interesting thing to look up, mycorrhizal fungi), is conduct trades of nutrients between trees, and when the soil quality begins to deteriorate, they withhold nutrients from trees, prioritize some over others, get some trees addicted.... it's a whole thing.
The dryads call this the 'pixie crisis' and afterwards, they shun all pixies, reducing them to the bare minimum needed to survive, and no longer giving them any information from the outside world, essentially cutting them off.
Then comes a little dryad who wants to remind the sunflowers of who they're supposed to be. It's the only information the pixies have gotten in years.
So of course (I still have to figure this part out) they'll cause issues now that they have Anuli to describe the outside world.
This, along with Anuli breaking faer tether, leads to Anuli becoming a fallen fairy, having to fight Kamari in the Battle of the Fates.
So of course, Kamari tries to save Anuli.
Which causes the Elders of the Unseen to send in other ambassadors.
(Annnddd I still have to figure this part out too)
But a heavily injured Kamari and a saved Anuli make their way to leave Trinity Hollow with Ankh, who's mostly there to take care of Kamari and has a grudge against Anuli.
That's the plan for now! Anuli wakes up old, godly beings, Kamari suffers, Ankh loses everyone but Kamari, Anuli's mental health goes to garbage. Tragic little found family!
Thanks for asking!!! <3 <3 /gen
I'm currently making a Sitara doll for art, and I'm hoping I can make everyone size accurate.
In other news... I'm trying to work on a blog post about revamping Aisfa and Nali (the two other members of Ankh and Sitara's friend group that fell apart after Sitara got condemned)
aww poor anuli. for sure I'll post my lore, I'm making a doc of it anyway so I'll post the part about the woods! (when I finish it)
yo I love that the sunflowers talk, I love love love making semi to fully sentient plants (its a big part of my lore). also. what does ankh have against anuli??
